Experience Gained
Working as a member of the Marilyn Davies College of Business (MDCOB) Digital Communications Team was an exciting and fulfilling job experience that taught me valuable skills in content creation, marketing, and communication. As a member of the Digital Communications team, my main duties were to assist in maintaining multichannel communications that positively promote the College.
One of my key responsibilities was creating and posting content regularly on the college's social media channels. I had to ensure that the content was relevant, engaging, and aligned with the College's messaging. I had to be on the lookout for relevant stories and content that would capture the attention of our target audience. To achieve this, I had to reach out to students and faculty regularly to incorporate their stories for marketing content, including eNews articles. Attending college events to obtain content for the creation of marketing collateral was a must. This involved photography, videography, and graphic/flyer development.
As part of our multichannel approach, I also had to re-post relevant content from the University and other related channels. To maintain an organized calendar of content, I had to have strong organizational skills and attention to detail. I had to constantly optimize the content calendar to align with current marketing campaigns and events.
I also assisted in creating a weekly summary of all content posted in the previous month. This required strong verbal/written communication skills and a willingness to learn and research new technologies to improve our communication strategies.
One of the Marketing Campaigns I personally handled was the "Apply to Graduate" Campaign. One problem we aimed to solve was: The College had a small number of Graduation Applications up until the last week of registration. All students must file for graduation the semester before they are planning to graduate. By scheduling 2 posts a week, per social media channel, I aimed to bring awareness to students that they need to begin applying to graduate. I scheduled Facebook & Instagram stories, and LinkedIn & Twitter posts. This campaign ran for 2 months, approaching the application deadline.
In summary, my job experience with the MDCOB Digital Communications Team was an incredible opportunity to learn valuable skills in content creation, marketing, and communication. I am grateful for the experience, which prepared me for future job opportunities in the industry.
